Starship is a piece from my Static Animals collection. The pieces in this collection are conceived with the overarching goal of giving visual expression to non-tangible feelings, concepts or aspects of beings or places. When conceiving these pieces I would make and break geometric “rules” that define the form as I see fit, with the primary objective of conveying a particular expression or feeling.

Starship is a symbol of human ambition. The quality that compels us to build rockets to allow us to venture out of our atmosphere and explore the universe.

It points upward to imply a “reaching for the stars”. Outstretched wings imply a yearning and vulnerability. The strong linear directional consistency speaks to focus and determination and the central sharf that splits and deviates from it’s path momentarily, yet quickly corrects, rejoins and maintains it’s trajectory speaks to tenacity and perseverance in the face of setbacks and tribulation
