Meteor Shower is part of the Flight Dream collection. The pieces in this collection are conceived by establishing a geometric theme and rule-set that I then expound upon to create an expressive form. This process narrows down the number of possible outcomes providing me with a simplified base with which to find unique forms and expressions. The rule-sets or restrictions tend to steer the expression of the final piece, often in delightfully unexpected ways.
Light reflections on the midnight blue form appear as paralel star streaks, as observed in long-exposure photographs of meteor showers.
Geometric consistencies - parallel cylinders of equal radii merged together, combined in a non-linear arrangement creates a visual dichotomy representative of chaos and order. This dichotomy exists in actual meteor showers in that they are awe-inspiring spectacles when viewed from the ground, as well as volatile events where meteors break apart and combust in earth’s atmosphere.
We make sense of events (fortunate or unfortunate) as we experience them by assigning meaning to them, be it through a religious or moral or scientific lense. Meteor Shower is a reflection on the dichotomies and complexities of our reality - of how events can be perceived as awe-inspiring or catastrophic, as tremendous victories or devastating losses depending on who’s observing them and from what perspective
